What happens during an initial consultation?

An initial consultation lasts about 20-minutes. It includes an in-depth interview to understand the root problem, and a tongue and pulse diagnosis to assess your organs and overall health. I use four basic examinations: asking, hearing, seeing, and feeling to seek the cause of the body imbalance.

I will explain the nature of your problem in Oriental medical terms, benefits, treatment options. I will then design an individual treatment plan, or refer you to another practitioner.

How long are the sessions?

Most sessions last 45-60 minutes, and usually include acupuncture and other Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) methods.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments depends on the number of problems we are treating, the severity, and onset. For complex long-standing conditions, two treatments a week for a month may be recommended. For acute problems, usually fewer visits are required. For an illness that is deeply-seated, it will take longer to rectify. I will work with you to figure out a plan that fits your time and budget.

What results can I expect?

Patients often experience dramatic results in the first treatment. Some patients experience an immediate total or partial relief of their pain or other symptoms.  This relief may last, or some pain may return. In a few cases, there may be no immediate relief, only to notice the pain diminish over the next couple of day. Generally, you should expect to feel better.

Is acupuncture safe?

Yes. When performed by a competently trained, licensed professional, acupuncture is extremely safe. All licensed acupuncturists today use individually packaged, sterile, disposable needles so there is virtually no chance of infection or contagion.

What about Tradional Chinese Medicine for preventing disease?

More and more patients are using TCM to remain in balance as a way to prevent illness and disease. People go to massage and yoga for health and longevity. Why not TCM? I have clients who come to me for weekly and monthly sessions just to ward off imbalances. It is a wonderful gift to yourself and family.
